Environmental sustainability lies at the core of Innscor Africa Limited’s Empower Tomorrow initiative. As Zimbabwe grapples with the effects of deforestation and climate change, Innscor has taken proactive steps to ensure that its operations leave a positive economic and environmental footprint. Central to this effort is its partnership with Friends of the Environment (FOTE), which has been instrumental in combating deforestation through large-scale tree-planting efforts.
In 2022, the Empower Tomorrow initiative facilitated the planting of over 1.2 million trees, contributing to a cumulative total of over 40 million trees planted nationwide. This massive reforestation drive aims to reverse decades of environmental degradation caused by deforestation and poor land management practices. The impact of such efforts cannot be understated: trees play a crucial role in carbon sequestration, soil preservation, and maintaining biodiversity, all of which are vital in the fight against climate change.
One flagship event highlighting Innscor’s commitment is the annual Walkathon organized by FOTE. This event takes participants on a multi-day trek through Zimbabwe and raises awareness about climate change and deforestation while engaging communities in practical reforestation efforts. During the 2022 Walkathon, 47,000 trees were planted across communities, marking an important step towards reversing environmental damage.
Beyond tree planting, Empower Tomorrow encourages communities to take ownership of environmental conservation efforts. The initiative educates local communities about the importance of trees in maintaining a balanced ecosystem and helps them develop sustainable land management practices. By integrating environmental stewardship into its core operations, Innscor ensures that its business growth is not achieved at the expense of the environment. Instead, Empower Tomorrow fosters a sustainable development model that balances economic needs with the planet’s ecological limits.
